5 Miler

Yesterday I headed out on a 5 mile run.  Normally if I'm not in training for a race, my Saturday runs end up being about 3 miles, but since this week starts Yuengling Shamrock Half Marathon training I decided to bring it up a notch.  Especially since my first long run of the training program starts at 8 miles.  Eep!

And I will say, I had an awesome 5 mile run!  The temperature was 32* when I started out, well within my comfort range.  It was sunny and no snow or ice on the ground.  ;-)  And I apparently thought running fast was called for, even though I had no goals for this run.  I knew it was going to be a good run when I ran my first half mile in 5:54!  That's an awesome half mile time for me and the run just got better from there.

By the end, I had removed my fleece jacket I was wearing and had rolled up my long sleeves because I generated so much heat running.  LOL!  And when Garmie beeped at 5 miles, the time said...

1:06:20

This is a vast improvement over my last 5 mile run on November 12 of 1:09:48 and it beat my 8k time of 1:07:36.  Woohoo!  I know I won't always be this fast (relatively speaking), but it sure made my Saturday!  Maybe those intervals I'm trying to add into my workouts on the treadmill are paying off...
