New physical challenge

Do you remember Double Dare where you could chose the Physical Challenge? LOL!  Sorry, that's what this made me think of.

Anyway...I am now temporarily physically challenged. As I walked into work on Friday, I tripped on the sidewalk and took a fall. Yup. Very graceful and not at all embarrassing. I nailed both knees on concrete, which was not pleasant. When I got to work (which thankfully was only a block away) my right knee survived the impact ok. I have a small scrape, but under the knee. The bigger problem is the left knee. I nailed that one pretty good, along the right side of the knee cap and all across just underneath the knee. I was happy that it really is just scraped and there was no blood.

The issue is it is really hard to move my left knee without pain. I ended up on my feet all day Friday at work. Usually my work is physical, but for some reason Friday was an all-day on my feet kinda day. Which made the knee really swollen. It has not been fun walking since yesterday and sleeping last night wasn't easy.

Sadly, I missed the "intentionally" moving part of the 100 Day Challenge. I did move a great deal at work, more than usual actually. So, I'm torn over whether I missed day 4 or not. I'm leaning towards no due to the busyness of my day. Today, I got up and did my little stationary bike at home for 40 minutes. It was supposed to be a 7 mile run, but I knew my knee could not handle that. I'm not dumb enough to do something I know I can't do. I will work on that 7 mile run later this week. Hopefully the knee will heal quickly. I also texted my trainer that I wanted upper body on Monday. I sure as heck can't do squats, lunges, ect.

What a great way to start out 2013, huh?

First challenge of 100 Day Challenge

Alright. The 100 Day Challenge is going well. I've worked out three days in a row. I ran on Tuesday, then hit the gym Wednesday and Thursday. Now it is Friday. Normally a day off for me. I have to figure out a 30 minute workout of some sort. Do I go to the gym after work? Do I use my little stationary-type bike at home? Do I go for a walk?

This is going to be a toughie for me. What do you do for exercise on Fridays? Do you work out or do you take it easy since it's the start of the weekend?

Some specifics

Well, here is me writing down some specific goals to go with my resolutions from yesterday. These are the things that each year I try to accomplish and one new one. What specifics do you have in mind for 2013?

Eat healthy
Exercise
Lose weight to reach my goal weight of 140
Train to run a sub-
     2:50:00 half marathon
     60:00 8k/5 mile
     35:00 5k
Use my camera more
Write a book (1918 Influenza Epidemic)

To this end, I've decided to take on a few physical challenges (anyone else remember Double Dare?). These won't be the only ones, but this is where I am now. Hopefully throughout the year new ones will present themselves.

January 1, 2013

I checked the mail today (yes, I know there is no mail today, but I hadn't picked it up from the last several days) and in the mail was my December Get Out & Run medal! Woohoo! Very happy. I was hoping it would come so I could have it to wear before my January 1 run!

Kind of an awful pic, but eh. I got that beauteous medal today. That makes up for it. :-) Then, before heading out, I made hubby get a pic with me for posterity. LOL!

Temps for today's run were 37 degrees with wind chill making it feel 32. Not bad. I'll be honest, for the first 1.5 miles I really wished I had worn gloves! LOL! I was aiming for a 30 minute run, but ended up with 31:14 because I was about a tenth of a mile away from my car and just ran to it rather than walk. :) So for the first day of 2013, I ran 2.36 in 31:14. Not a bad start to the year!

And it gets me off on the right foot for the 100 Day Challenge!

What is this? 30 minutes of intentional activity a day for 100 days. This will be a stretch for me since I usually take a day or two off a week. 100 days of some form of activity. Yup. Challenge. Feel free to jump in if you think it will help you!
