Hurrican Irene

This is what my house looked like from Sunday about 2:30 a.m. until Tuesday about 1:30 p.m.  Yup.  Due to Hurricane Irene, we lost power.  For about 2.5 days.  No real reason honestly.  We had no flooding of our front yard (we have a small stream that flows through it), minimal flooding of our basement, and no trees down.  But somewhere, some how the power was knocked out.

Sunday wasn't too bad.  We didn't have big plans.  No Phillies game due to the Hurricane Irene.  The O's ended up playing after canceling the Sunday game, taking on the Yankees in a double header.  But, due to lack of electricity, we didn't know this until later.  We had plans to have dinner with hubby's family Sunday night anyway, so no worries about eating in the dark.  After coming home, no power still.  Eh.  We used our running light to read, then just slept in the living room.

Woke up Monday to still no power.  Slightly disappointing.  We had a fun breakfast at McDonald's, then hubby headed to his parent's house to use their internet for work (he works from home) and I came home to hang with the cats.  We then met for lunch at Subway since the power was still out.  I will say it was a bit frustrating.  With no power comes no water, because our water comes from a well and electricity runs the pumps.  So, I borrowed the in-laws shower since I was due at the archives in the morning.  Then we grabbed dinner at Smokey Bones.  On the way to the in-laws, we saw an electric truck at the end of the street, so we had hopes that we would come home to electricity.  No dice.

Tuesday dawned and I skipped my 30 minute training run since I had no where to shower afterwards.  Got ready and went to the archives...which had running water.  LOL!  It was nice knowing I could go to the bathroom anytime I wanted.  ;-)  And glory be!  A text from the hubby confirmed power returned to the house about 1:30 p.m.  Ahhhhh....As I told my friend, I felt like the first person Thomas Edison demonstrated the light bulb to.  LOL!

So, while we had a crazy few days here with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, especially since overall our area was barely hit by it, I want to encourage you to pray, donate, or volunteer to help those who are worse off than me and most of us.  The people of NJ and VT are dealing with catastrophic situations and can use all the help they can get.  I was frustrated and annoyed, they are fighting for all they hold dear.
