Tired

This past December the state of PA changed the law regarding birth and death records.  Apparently, geneologists had been bugging the state government to open these records for research purposes, but until now they had always been rebuffed.  Well, no more.

Currently, you can now access birth records older that 105 years old (meaning 1906, earlier ones exists but at the county level) and death records 50 years or older (1906-1961, again with older ones at the county level).  Since I work at the State Archives, it has fallen to me to pull these documents for researchers.  And pull I have!  We anticipated lots of people coming in all at once requesting documents.  Didn't turn out that way.  Instead, we've had several people a day requesting many records.  Last Wednesday was the first day the records were available and I pulled 100 documents for researchers (setting an Archives record!).  Thursday was a bit calmer, but Friday was busy with 87 documents.  I was so happy it was Friday so I could relax over the weekend.  It's tiring pulling cartons of paper down all day!

Today I pulled 90 documents throughout the day and man am I tired!  I thought the long weekend would help, it did not.  Shortly after pulling documents I realized how tired I was.  Sure, I was up a tad bit later than I should have been (11:00 pm rather than 10:00 pm), but remember I'm a night owl.  But honestly, at the end of the day I'm exhausted!  All I did when I got home was make a simple dinner of grilled cheese and soup, then sat my butt down on the couch with a heating pad and a tabby.  And here I have stayed most of the evening.

It is amazing how physical my job has become.  I have cardio kickboxing at the gym tomorrow night.  I have a feeling it will be an early evening tomorrow night for me.

  1. I bet after a couple weeks of this you'll be slingin' these things around with ease. (Or it will calm down.)

  2. I feel the same way after I have to do CPR/chest compressions during my shift. I go home exhausted and the next day my arms and chest are so sore! Pulling documents all day isn't quite the cross training you planned on, huh? Just think of how great your upper body strength is going to be after another week or so!
