What have I done?

Oh my good Lord, what have I done?  I have gone and signed up for this.  To say I'm scared would be an understatement.  I think I can handle the running part (trail and uphill) and the mud, but the obstacles have me terrified.

I signed up to run the Spartan Sprint in Palmerton, PA on July 14th.  It's a 3ish mile obstacle course with approximately 15 challenges.  I'm not worried about the rope wall or belly crawling under barbed wire.  But, anything that has to do with upper body/arm strength?  Screwed.  What's fun about this one, unlike many other mud/obstacle runs, is for every obstacle you miss, you have to do 30 burpees.  What are burpees?

1. Get into a crouch
2. Kick your legs back as if doing a push-up/plank
3. Bring your legs back into the crouch position
4. Stand up
5. Repeat 30 times

So, if you miss all 15 obstacles and do 30 burpees each you would be doing 450 burpees.  I honestly can see myself doing a good number of that total.  I suppose I should practice these things...

Cause finishing means I get one of these...and they are kinda cool...

  1. OMG! That looks HARD! I learned what a burpee was at my first step class here! Yikes! I look forward to hearing more and more about this- you poor thing! :)

  2. Thanks Jill! Yea, I'm not sure what the heck I was thinking. LOL! I have to start doing burpees. I've never, ever done one to begin with. I better get on that. I am going to start tomorrow to get ready. I need to start running more, hitting the weights more, and adding in some hills/monkey bars/climbing walls. The goal is to finish. That's it. No time goal, just finish. :-)

  3. Ooh... I want to sign up for this as well, but I haven't lol. Same fear as you; anything to do with upper body strength. I mean, my leg strength is something awesome, my arms make noodles look strong.
You're going to be great. Don't just focus on the burpees, focus on training for the obstacles so you won't have to do a single burpee!
    Go get that medal!

    1. My arms make noodles look strong too! LOL! I have no upper body strength, but I figure this should get my butt working on it. But, you know what? Doesn't matter how many burpees I do, I will cross the finish line. I will get that medal. And I will prove to myself I'm in better shape than I think!
