Snow is Good for Something

Yes, you read that right.  In case you hadn't heard, the Mid-Atlantic was hit with a major snow storm.  President Obama called it Snowmageddon, and I'd have to agree with him.  It was kinda insane!  In our neck of the woods, we got approximately 18", but the hubby thinks it was closer to 2 feet.  All I know is there's lots of it out there!

Well, our snow blower isn't working right now, so with 2 feet of snow, we headed out with our shovels to remove the snow from the driveway.  Friday night, we went out about 10:00 p.m. and shoveled for a little over an hour.  We headed to bed about 1:00 a.m. and at some point in the night, hubby headed out again to shovel.  I slept through THAT shoveling.  LOL!  I did get up Saturday morning and help shovel again.  It seemed about the same amount of snow from the evening before.  And this after TWO shovels.  We got through the Saturday shoveling, with the help of the neighbor with the front end loader.  Love living in a neighborhood where the neighbors have snow plows and front end loaders, and like to use them!  Sunday, up again and out to shovel.  This time digging the cars out.  We have small little Dodge Neons.  With the snow on them, they looked a whole heck of a lot like minivans.  LOL!  But, we got them uncovered in about 45 minutes and FINALLY got all the snow off the driveway.  It was crazy!

So, what was the snow good for?  EXERCISE!  I worked out everyday, shoveling snow.  And a lovely friend told me that shoveling snow is 453 calories an hour for the average 150 pound person.  Not bad compensation for having to do some back breaking work!

And since this whole post is about the snow, here's what we dealt with in our neck of the woods:

About 5:00 p.m. Friday night prior to heading out to dinner

Snow coming down approximately 11:30 p.m.

  1. LOL! Yup. We're having a boat load of snow this year. It hasn't snowed this much since 2003-2004. That year we had a total of 38". In 2002-2003, there was over 57". Hopefully we don't see THAT this year!
