So close I can taste it...which may not be a good thing.

Weigh-in Friday. I have no idea when weigh-in Friday became a norm. I liked going Saturday mornings, then July came and I couldn't go on Sat. mornings cause we had plans EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY. So, I switched to Friday. We're at the end of Aug. and I'm still going Friday mornings. Creature of habit I suppose...

Anyway...got up a tad later than usual, which is ok now. They've started opening up the center all day on Fridays. Odd, but that's what it is. So, I got there, grabbed my stuff and got in line. Didn't have to wait long, which was nice. Got on the scale and the WW lady asked me what I did this week. Ummm...I don't know. Followed the plan the best I could (which wasn't very well, but she doesn't need to know that)? She was very excited, but I couldn't hear what she said for my loss. I just nodded along and acted like I was happy. I had NO CLUE what she said. I heard something about a .4, but other than that, no idea. I grabbed my journal and out the door I went. I tend not to stay for meetings.

I got in the car and opened my book. I wanted to know what made her surprised - I was down 3.4 pounds! I was AMAZED to say the least. And excited. :-) It's been awhile since I've seen a good number like that. Wish I DID know what I did this week to get that number, I want to do it again next week!!

Now I am down a total of 29.6 pounds - Woohoo!
And I am 6.6 pounds towards my October 8th goal of 12. :-)

Next week I want at least .4 pounds to hit 30 officially. That's not too much to ask, is it?

Awesome Run!

Tonight I went running. I've been going during the day, but it's just so darn hot! I'm not a morning person, so to get up when the temps are somewhat cooler eludes me. So, I've been getting up and running at 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. for about 50 minutes. This is hot. And my park, while lovely, has very little shade during the day.

So, I decided to try to go at night. I was not happy all day about this. In fact, I was kinda dreading it. As it got closer to 6:30 p.m., my self-imposed departure time, I was just annoyed as all get out. When I worked, I usually went right after work, since it was the only time I could do (see morning discussion above). But, since in reality, I had all day to run, I felt annoyed I had to get up NOW to do it.

I got to the park and it was actually temperature-wise, pretty nice. I was surprised. I did wear light capri pants and a tank top. I wasn't taking any chances after Tuesday! I started off and felt like I was running faster than usual, which was fine with me. This week I haven't had good run times. When I hit the one mile marker, I was at 12:19...3 seconds slower than my PR. I was sooooooooo close! Once I got past that one mile mark, my concentration was on mile two. Tuesday, my two mile time was an abysmal 20 minutes. Horrible. Seriously. I did NOT want another 20 minute mile 2. So, I pushed myself more than usual. When I hit the 2 mile marker I was at 28:55, a two mile time of 16:36!! I was so freaking excited! Mile two has always been hard for me. Then it was off to mile 3, which I worried would be bad, since I really pushed on mile two and with mile one being so good...When I came around to the 3 mile marker I finished at 45:47, a three mile time of 17:52. While it's a tad slower than mile 2, it's sure wasn't that bad! And in honesty, I think I've been running 3.25 miles rather three. The path I take states one full loop is 1-1/8 of a mile and I do two full loops, plus one slightly shorter loop. So, I may be running futher than 3 miles.

Saturday starts 8k training. I'm adding half a mile to my current three mile distance. I'll be up around 55 miles, maybe? Though I do know I'm going to lay off the idea of pushing the time in favor of getting in the distance. I'll keep you posted!

I hate clothing manufacturers

So, I am in the process of cleaning up the house, as we will have company this weekend. In our extra bedroom up stairs is where I keep the bins with all my old clothes that I outgrew and that I working on ingrowing. Last night, I went up stairs and started trying things on to see what fit and what still was too small.

Some of the clothing that I wore FIVE years ago at this weight (which you still won't know) DON'T FIT. WTF? Seriously. Why did these clothes fit 5 years ago, but not now? I have clothes in the bedroom that are too big in sizes that didn't fit up stairs. I understand that different "designers" fit differently, but really? I have pants that are falling off in the size that I could barely button upstairs. Ugh.

I did get some capris, pants, and my adorable denim skirt that I bought for my 5 year college class reunion. I was THRILLED my demin skirt fits again. It's just in time for a wedding we have on Sat. I wanted a cute sun dress, but my dresses are either too dressy or sleeveless. I don't feel comfortable going to this out door wedding reception in sleeveless, so I'm happy my demin skirt fits. :) Bought a cute shirt to wear with it, as the last time I wore the skirt, all the tops that went with it were 3/4 or long sleeve. That's not going to work for an out door wedding reception in August.

Exercise Update

Well, I'm batting .500 in exercise this week. *rolleyes* I have only done 1 of my 2 Wii Active workouts so far this week. I meant to do it before the Phils game on Sunday, but I started cleaning my room instead. Yes, I avoided exercise by cleaning my bedroom. LOL! I did laundry, put away clothes, took the sweatshirts out of the closet, and FINALLY organized my socks. So many had been parted from their mate for too long. But, this kept me from exercising. I didn't realize it until after the game and had plans to go grocery shopping, make dinner, etc. Oops!

Today, I wasn't going to let that happen again. Though it almost did! My plan was to get up and use the Wii Active this morning. The reason? The Phils had a day game, right when I normally would use it. LOL! So, I get up and find out hubby has conference calls at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Ugh. So, I can't do it until later. Lovely. I did some cleaning up and writing up some recipes in my notebook and watched the Phils. At 5:30 p.m., I turned on the Wii and did the Upper Body (Hard) workout tonight. Yea! I did it. :-) So, I am batting .500 in two days. Hoping my average goes up.

Tomorrow? 3 miles at the park. I'm aiming to get to the park about 9:00 a.m.

5k

Over the last few weeks, I have been trying to get myself back into 5k mode. After the 5k in June, I took about a month off due to various health calamities - knee pain and stupid, never-ending cold. But, at the beginning of August, I went back to running. My friend Crystal had a great way of looking at it. Add a mile a week. So, week one was 1 mile three times a week. Worked out great! I was happy about that. Week two was 2 miles a week three times a week. It didn't go so well. I did a mile and a half the first run, then 30 minutes on the treadmill (which said 1.65 miles, but I have my doubts) and finally 2 miles on the treadmill. Last week was a "work my way up to 2 miles" week. LOL!

Today was three miles. We went to the park to run, where there are mile markers and I know exactly how far I've run rather than guessing. Mile one sucked. My stomach HURT. I didn't think I'd make it through mile one. Then I hit mile two. About halfway through, I got a stitch in my side. Ugh. Really?? So, at this point, I'm thinking, get to 2.5 miles and work your way up to three by the end of the week. I hit mile three and feel fine. It was crazy! So, I hit the 2.5 mile marker and decide to keep going. It's only 1/2 mile, see what happens. AND I FINISHED! It was the first time since June that I have run 3 miles. Woohoo! So now I have do that two more times this week. Guess I'll be heading to the park again. LOL!

Next Saturday starts 8k training. B and I are visiting friends in WI in Oct. and will be running an 8k (4.97 miles) with them on the Sat. That's two whole miles longer than I've ever run. Eek! So, here's what I'm thinking training-wise for Sept/Oct.

Week of Aug. 29th - 3.5 miles
Week of Sept. 5th - 4 miles
Week of Sept. 12th - 4.5 miles
Week of Sept. 19 - 5 miles with the For McHenry Tunnel Run 5k on Sunday

Then I have a couple weeks between that and leaving for vacation that gives me some time if I'm a little behind in the training. Wish me luck! I'll need it!

It's that day of the week again

It's weigh-in day! Who doesn't love it??? *rolleyes* Got up and headed over to weigh-in. I realized this morning, I must really be committed to this thing because I drive an hour both ways to spend 10 minutes at the WW office. Ah well.

I am down a pound this week. It's not as much as I was hoping for honestly. I was really hoping for 1.4 or 1.6, their scale does not do 1.5. So, a little disappointed in that, but I am now down 26 pounds total, with just 24 to go. I am also down 3.2 pounds towards my Oct. 8th goal of 12 pounds, leaving me with just 8.8 pounds before then.

I have been slacking a bit on the exercise between runs. My friend Crystal pointed this out to me and I thank her for that. She shared with me HER exercise goals for the week and I was embarrassed about what mine were going to be, so I am writing down my exercise goals for the week, for all to see. I will come back and update on how it's going this week. I think I may have done myself a disservice by NOT exercising properly this past week. Hopefully I can make up for it this week!

Saturday, August. 22 - Run 3 miles
Sunday, August 23 - Wii Active
Monday, August 24 - Wii Active
Tuesday, August 25 - Run 3 miles
Wednesday, August 26 - Wii Active
Thursday, August 27 - Run 3 miles
Friday, August 28 - Weigh-in and rest ;-)

So, there you have it. My exercise goals for the week. Here's to an active week!

I hate summer

Alright, I know most people must think I'm crazy for having uttered that thought, but seriously, have you run in 85 degree temps??? IT'S HOT! I'm trying to get back into 5k shape after basically not running since the Baltimore Women's Classic in June. I ran a mile three times last week and this week is the goal is 2 miles three times. I HATE the treadmill, but I used it to run 2 of my three miles last week. I may end up using the treadmill once this week to get a 2 mile run in, but I sure know I can't do it twice AND there is no WAY I'll be doing three miles on the treadmill. Ugh. I hate summer. When does winter come again???

FINALLY! 25 Pounds!

It has been 32 weeks since I started Weight Watchers. I started about two months before Christmas in 2008. I figured I'd start early to help keep me on track over the holidays. Since then, I had a gold of 7-squared, where I would loose 7 pounds a month for 7 months. Didn't quite hit that. LOL! Then it was 25 pounds by July 23rd, the day we left for vacation. I missed it by .8 pounds! So mad! LOL! Then we came home from vacation and I got sick, so between vacation and sickness, I gained 1.2 pounds. :-(

I spent this week working on loosing. The week didn't start off great. I actually was really concerned about this week because I had lunch out scheduled for Wednesday and dinner out scheduled for Thursday (the night before weigh-in). I wasn't sure how well this would work out. I tried Wednesday to eat healthy at lunch, but I caved and ate my fries. They were good though... Then last night, I ordered a turkey burger, but asked for broccoli INSTEAD of the fries. Progress. But I still worried. Would there be too much salt in last night's meal? Did I drink enough water?

Set the alarm this morning to go to WW at 9:30 a.m. like I have all summer. Apparently, the alarm went off, I turned it off, and went back to bed! Woke up at 8:55 a.m., which is 5 minutes before I normally leave the house! Opps! I changed quick, put on deodorant, and perfume and headed out. Got to WW and it was pretty quiet, not too many people there. Went up and weighed in, hoping that I at least lost what I gained last week. And the moment of truth came - 2.2 pounds...enough to hit the elusive 25 pound mark!!! I am so freaking happy about this! I missed my deadline/goal by about three weeks, but I hit it!!! I am officially at the half way point in my weight-loss efforts. And now need just 9.8 pounds in the next 7.5 weeks to hit my next goal of 12 pounds. Yea!

UPDATE on eating out

So, we're back from dinner. Hopefully I did ok with my choices - turkey burger on a whole wheat bun and broccoli (replacing fries - which hurt, but I did it.)

We shall see tomorrow how successful I was tonight.

Eating Out

It is so freaking hard to eat out. No matter where you go, it's a challenge to find healthy options to keep you on tract. It's like picking the lesser of two evils. What brings this up is I had lunch out yesterday - Ruby Tuesday - and I'm eating dinner out tonight - TGIFridays. Yesterday, I was out with my mom at the outlets and we grabbed lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, which we generally do when we're there. I went with a lite lemonade (which just made my day!) and a veggie burger. The burger was actually pretty good (I hadn't had one from there before). It was a little spicy and it broke apart pretty easily, but it was good. The hiccup was I ate more of my fries than I should have. But, they are so freakin' good and fries are my weakness. It's so hard for me to NOT eat them.

Tonight, we're heading to TGIFriday's to help support our local SPCA. If we eat there today, the SPCA gets a portion of the proceeds from today's meals. But, in checking out the menu options ahead of time, they have so few healthy options. And every option I thought I would eat, was about 10 points a piece, and that's just the main meal, not any side dishes. Seriously, that's insane! How do you eat healthy if the best options are 410 calories/19 grams fat (turkey burger) or 500 calories/12 grams fat (salmon over fettuchini noodles)? It's crazy!

Wish me luck! My love for animals will make me head to Friday's tonight. Hopefully I can find something healthy...weigh-in is tomorrow!

Running...again

Today was my first run in about a month. It may have been exactly a month for all I know, I just know the last time I ran was early July. I did my 5k on June 28th, then did two more runs after wards, but had pain in my knee. I decided it wasn't worth killing my knee over until I could see the dr. So, since I went to the doc yesterday, and she didn't think it was serious, I decided to go out today.

I took her advice before running, I took a Aleve. My goal wasn't too far - just one mile - but I decided it was a good idea to take it since I haven't run in a while. Got to the park and stretched. I'm not a HUGE stretcher, but I did my normal pre-run stretch routine. There wasn't a bunch of runners there this morning, which surprised me. At first, I was the only one and that's kinda sad. LOL! I got started and felt pretty good. I did have one cause for concern when I wasn't even a quarter mile out and I coughed. I was afraid of a full-on coughing jag. But, I coughed once and kept going. Phew! I hit the three-quarter mile mark and thought I could run even more. I actually didn't feel bad. I was breathing heavy, but not having run for a month and dealing with the remenants of this darn cold led to me to believe I was ok. I could breathe, so I could run. I hit the mile marker at 12:39, which isn't the fastest I've run the mile at this park (12:16), but it wasn't the worst either (13:17). It was a decent time actually. I thought I might do one full loop at that point, which would be more than I aimed for when I got to the park. I went to the park thinking a mile, but at the mile marker, I felt good. I kept running. But, once I hit the 1.25 mile marker (16:02), I decided I was done. It was a quarter mile longer than I was going to run and 1.25 miles more than I've run in a month. LOL!

My goal is to run 1 mile two more times this week. It'll be at Shelley, cause driving up to Couselor is just not worth it during the week. But Shelley has hills, so it'll be a good test of how I'm really doing. Here's to getting back on track.

Doctor Visit

Well, headed to the doctor to check in about some knee pain I've been having. She doesn't think it's serious, which is good. She gave me a couple things to do for it to help with the pain, which I plan to try and see what works for me. Her advice made sense, so we'll see what happens.

I go back to running tomorrow. Hoping for a mile to a mile and a half. I've been off training for about a month, so I don't want to push it too much. If I can get in a 1.5 miles I'll be THRILLED. Though it may be a run/walk due the to the remnants of my cold. Ugh. Will it NEVER go away?

Wrapping up the vacation/sick time

Alrighty, weighed-in today after three weeks of vacation and sickness. I wasn't sure how bad it would be. It could have been 7 pounds, it could have been 1 pound. My scale this morning said anywhere from 1 pound to 3 pounds. So, heading to the meeting, I knew I was up. I was THRILLED when it turned out I was only up 1.2 pounds in three weeks. Woohoo! That's not even a pound a week. :-) How excited am I about this??

So, now I am officially back on track and since the Vegas wedding goal is passed, I need a new one. I have decided to set Oct. 8, 2009, as that is the day we leave for our next adventure in WI and it's the day before my birthday. My goal is 12 pounds, which includes the 1.2 pounds I gained. That will get me lower than I was before we moved to PA five years ago. I would be THRILLED with that!

In just a little while, I head to the doctor to talk to her about the knee pain I've been having when running/walking. I want to make sure I'm doing all I should to protect it from getting worse. I wanted to know if I should do more than a brace on it, i.e. should I ice it down when I come home? I have no idea. So, I'm heading to the doctor to get her advice. I have a 5k on Sept. 20th in Baltimore and haven't run since the second week in July. I have a LOT to make up for and I want to do it right.

So, here we go. 12 pounds by Oct. 8th. It's on!

Red Onions + Head Cold = Bad

It's true! I spent about an hour this morning cutting up veggies and got to the red onions. I thought since my nose was stuffy, I wouldn't have a problem, so I started cutting them with a knife rather than the chopper. Oh, what a mistake! I lasted about 2 minutes and then my eyes started to water and my nose started to get stuffy. So, I stopped, cleaned my eyes and blew my nose. I grabbed the chopper and continued that way. It got better, but not great.

But, the red onion smell has been stuck in my nose ever since! When I blow my nose now (since my head cold is on day 8), I can still smell the red onions. That is not pleasant. At least it's not making my eyes water. LOL! So, lesson learned - do not think you can outsmart a red onion when you have a cold. It will smite you.

Getting back into the swing isn't as bad as I thought it would be

I'm surprised. I really thought going from eating crap all day and drinking a ton would be difficult. I'm on day two and it hasn't been that bad. Who knew I would get home and WANT vegetables? Honestly, on the menu's in Vegas, I didn't see all that many. Though I did have an awesome veggie Carribbean wrap on Friday. Delicious!

I did about 20 points yesterday instead of 22 because I know I need to compensate for the past two weeks. I was fine overall. About 10:00 p.m. I wanted a snack, but I held my ground and was fine. Today has been going well. Got up later than I anticipated, so I had a Special K granola bar. Lunch was great! I did low-fat Eggo waffles, bananas, reduced-fat syrup, ICBINB spray and walnuts. Oh heavens! It's a bigger lunch than usual, but oh so good! Really, I could eat like that every meal!

Hoping by Friday/Saturday to have lost some of the weight I gained on vacation. I can't imagine I'll loose it all, but if the scale only shows me up 1-2 pounds by the weekend, I'll be THRILLED!

Monday, August 3, 2009

5.5 pounds

Yup, in the last two weeks (give or take a day), I have gained 5.5 pounds back. Ugh. I mean, that only equates to 2.25 pounds per week, if thought of logically, but still. That's a lot! I was a little afraid to get on the scale cause when I came back from Vegas the scale said 7 pounds and that was before the "all-you-can-eat-cold." So, this morning I was thinking it would say 10. Apparently, the body fighting off the cold virus for 6 days (and counting) helped. Yea cold! You were good for something. *rolleyes*

So, it's start fresh day. I'm hoping I can be down about half of that before going back to WW. That would be acceptable. It's going to take a few weeks to get it off, but I can do it. I would LOVE to loose another 10-15 before heading on our next trip, but I think 10 might be the max I can expect in the next 9 weeks. *crossed* it can happen.

So, today, I cleaned out the fridge. Nothing more fun that cleaning out the refrigerator let me tell you! It's cleaned out and ready for food. I need to write out the grocery list for the next few weeks and get some veggies. I'll head to the two small stands near the house for that, then the grocery store for the other stuff. I think we're ok overall, just need a good amount of perishables - veggies, fruits, milk, break, etc. Stuff you get when you're going to get 10 feet of snow. LOL!

I am still coughing with my cold and I think there's a post-nasal drip thing happening, so I'm holding off on the Wii. I go to the doctor on Friday about my knee. Hoping that she'll tell me to just get a good brace and I'll be good to go. I have two runs coming up, one of which I've never run that distance before. I need to get back out there if I'm going to do them!

Vacation + Cold = Really bad eating habits

Ugh. I had a FANTABULOUSACIOUS time in Las Vegas! I already miss my friends and wish we all lived closer or that the United States was smaller. Either way, I would get to be with them more often. It was a great time, the bride was beautiful, the groom handsome, and Las Vegas...well, was Las Vegas!

The problem was I ate like crap. I don't think I ate all that much actually. We generally missed one meal a day based on what time we got up and what we were doing. The big problem? The drinking. Even with Miller Lites, I drank too much every day. It was the biggest drinking trip I've been on, including the last trip with these ladies to NOLA. LOL! I think that's what killed me. :-( So sad.

Then, after returning home, I came down with a cold. And it just was not pretty. Initially, I didn't want to eat much, my throat hurt. Then I realized eating/drinking actually allowed me to swallow without pain and I was done for. Especially when I realized we had ice cream. And what goes better with a sore throat than ice cream? It has not been pretty.

I still have the remenants of my cold. I've eaten better today, but I can't guartenee that's going to stay for the day. My goal is to go back to the WW plan tomorrow. Maybe knock off a point more than I should to compensate. I have a ton to undo over the next couple of weeks. I am hoping to loose what I gained over vacation and then 10-15 by October 8th. We leave on our next big outing that day. Hopefully I can do it!
