It's been awhile...

It has been a rough couple of weeks. It all went off track after a fun weekend in Atlantic City and just never got back on the rails. Food was the culprit, which tends to be the case. I will say, I had great exercise the following week in Philly. Loved the gym at our hotel! The treadmill had it's own, personal fan. What could be better??? I did an HOUR on the treadmill. Who does that?!?

Thanksgiving went well. It wasn't a complete gorge-fest. It could have been better, but it was much better than normal. I kinda went off the deep-end the rest of the weekend, though. :-( I was all set to change the way things were going Sunday, but yea, that didn't happen either. Ugh.

So, I am changing that today. I decided to have a day of fasting. I know people aren't always a fan of it, but I needed something drastic to break the cycle I got into. My hope is that starting tomorrow, I can get back to boot camp, which has been extended until Friday. While I doubt I have lost ANYTHING more in Nov., I can hope that fasting and boot camp this week will keep me even.

December's goal is an additional 5 pounds. It's doable. Just keep reminding me of that...

Boot Camp Weigh In 3 - Day 19 of Boot Camp

Sorry to disappoint, but I did not go to weigh in today. My home scale says I'm up from last week and I don't have the heart to see my book go back into the 10 pound range above. Just can't do it. Took too long (5.5 months) to go into it that I can't bear to turn back. It's going to be a rough week coming up, but I have faith I can handle it.

Upcoming week:

Sat., Nov. 20-22 - Philly - hubby is running the Philly Half Marathon, so we're heading to Philly on Sat. for packet pick-up, grabbing a pasta dinner, then turning in early so we can be up bright and early for the 7:00 a.m. start time Sunday morning. We're staying in Philly and will watch the Eagles game Sunday night in the city, then meeting up with a friend in for the holidays on Monday for lunch. Then home.

Thurs., Nov. 26 - Thanksgiving Day. A landmine of delicious, yet calorie-laden food. Must be vigilent about what I eat that day as there are TONS of things I get once a year (aka Thanksgiving) that I have to be wary of. So, this is the day that a good strong work-out will be needed.

Fri., Nov. 27 - While this is after my next weigh-in, technically it's part of next week. Other friends are coming in from TN for the holiday and we'll be joining them for lunch.

And wait til you hear what next week brings! Oh the humanity!

Onward to a recap from Day 19 of Boot Camp!

Exercise: Seems to be something I'm struggling with lately. But, I had a wonderful pep talk with a friend and have dedicated myself to exercise. It sure helps she's willing to kick my ass to make sure I do it. :-) So, we both agreed to run and I did. Got in 2.375 miles of running and .175 miles walking. Which is a TON more than I've done lately. I'm thinking I have to sign up for another race or I will let my running slide. Which would be a shame after all the hard work I've put in this year. So, I gotta get my butt in gear and sign up for the Jingle Bell race in Harrisburg.

Water: Missed by a tad. Drank most of a glass of water, then we ran errands and I never finished it. Doh! But, the good thing is that I'm getting back into the habit of drinking it.

Sweets: Well, not sure about this. I bought a pack of praline pecans as a treat for having emailed my entire thesis to my prof. Since they were nuts, I didn't think anything of it. Then I started wondering if the pecan coating could qualify them as sweets? This is a really hard thing, giving up sweets. Chocolate is a given, so no trail mix with chocolate, but this is on the iffy side for me. So, I may have been ok, or not. Ugh.

Points: I was good until the pecans. LOL! Actually, I had a TON of points at the end of the day, so I got myself a Chai Latte with soy milk. It turned out to be 7 points! I thought it would be more like 5. :-( So, thinking it was only 5 points, I ate the pecans mentioned above. Which after finding out my Latte was 7 points, put me over. Darn it!

9:00 p.m.: No food after 9:00 p.m. again.

Breakfast: I was lazy with breakfast. Again. Ugh. A bowl of cereal and a bowl of grapes. LOL! Wow, so exciting.

3 Fruits: Got all three in. Yea!

2 Vegetables: Vegetables were easy today. I made a lunch and dinner similar to the recipe below - lunch was veggies with roasted red pepper humus on a tortilla and dinner was the veggies and tuna with cheese on a tortilla. We were being lazy at dinner, but I definitely got my vegetables in. :-)

So, this coming week is going to be a HUGE challenge - both food and exercise wise. I need to bring my workout gear to Philly as our hotel has a gym. I can use that on Sunday and Monday to make sure I get a workout in. Those will be tough and eating out Sat night, all of Sunday and 2 meals on Monday will stretch my willpower. If I can come out of the weekend intact, this will be a great weekend to use to prove I can resist temptation and stay on track.

Typical lunch

So, I post a good deal about what I eat in the Points section of my updates. One lunch we have quite frequently is a Flat Out Veggie wrap. So, I thought I would share with you what I do to make it, in case it sounds like something you would like. If not, skip this post and keep going. :-)

Lunch generally helps me get my veggies in, if I make it myself. So, once or twice a week I will grab the skillet, cut up veggies and make a toasted veggie wrap using Flat Out Bread. Here's how you make it.

I take one Flat Out Bread wrap:

Then I spread Sonoma Jack Lite Cheese onto it. There are three flavors our grocery store carries and we like all three - Pepper Jack, Garlic and Herb, and Peppercorn.
With the cheese spread on the Flat Out Bread.
Once that's done, I take cut up veggies and stir-fry them in the skillet. We generally go with onions, carrots, red and green peppers, and whatever else we might have in the fridge. It's all personal preference, so put whatever vegetables you like in the stir-fry. I also like to add a little seasoning to the vegetables. Most of the time it's garlic powder, but sometimes it's Old Bay, sometimes it's Cajun. Depends on what I'm in the mood for.
Once the veggies are cooked to my liking, I put them in the middle of the Flat Out bread.
Then take the sides and wrap them around the middle. With the cheese spread across the whole bread, it makes a kind of glue that holds the edges together when you make the wrap. I've done this without taking the cheese to the edge, and when you fold the edges in, they don't stay. The cheese on the outside edges really makes the difference.
Now it's ready for the toaster oven. Put the setting what ever works for yours, ours is set to toast. It's such an old toaster oven that we basically leave it on the same setting for everything. LOL!
When it comes out, it's nice and toasted and yummy! It's a nice healthy 2 point sandwich that will really fill you up! I've also made it with canned tuna in water, which ups the point value to 4, but gives you the benefit of protein. Enjoy!

November 18 - Day 18 of Boot Camp

These running commentaries are getting shorter and shorter. LOL! Guess that's what happens when you get out of sync with what you are supposed to be doing. It's been a rough week. I realized that getting off track due to a new setting is rough. I am doing well at mastering controlling what I do at home and even when we go out locally, but going WAY out of the neighborhood is killer. Ugh.

Exercise: Wanted to get back on track with this since I missed it yesterday. I did the Wii Fit AND the Wii Active. I did a nice overall routine on the Wii Active that had some light toning exercises and some fun sport-type exercises. I had a hard time picking what I wanted to do, but settled for this 19 minute routine. Then I turned on the Wii Fit and did 10 minutes of Advanced Step, 6 minutes of Basic Step (which I haven't done in ages, and some balance exercises. I like the soccer head butt one the best. LOL! So, a nice 40 minutes of exercise.

Water: Finally got it all in! Good to get back on the water band wagon. I really need to get better at rationing my iced tea reward. I think I have to switch from half my water for iced tea to 3/4 of my water for iced tea.

Sweets: None.

Points: Stayed on track again. It was good to be on points two days in a row.

9:00 p.m.: No food after 9:00 p.m. again.

Breakfast: Breakfasts really are getting boring. I should pre-make some pancakes or something so I can just heat those up. The Heart Healthy Bisquick mix is 3 points for 4 pancakes...or is it 4 points for 3 pancakes? Hmmm... Oh! And did you hear there's a shortage in the Eggo Waffle Nutri-Grain brand? Ugh. We get those and I love topping them with bananas. Lovely.

3 Fruits: Got all three in. Yea!

2 Vegetables: Vegetables can sometimes be a problem, but I was good today. Got all the veggies I needed in. Phew!

November 17 - Day 17 of Boot Camp

FINALLY got somewhat back on the boot camp band wagon. Shesh! Wasn't perfect, but better than the last several days. It's amazing how hard it is to get things on the right track when you get derailed. What the heck???

Exercise: Nothing. LOL! Great way to start off the recap, huh? I have a valid reason. I spent an entire day writing up my citation page for my thesis. It was oh so fun, and it took me literally until 11:29 p.m. So, no exercise. But I really wanted to get it done in one day, so...

Water: 6 cups. Ugh. But, it's WAY more than I have had the last couple days so it's a start.

Sweets: None. Yea!

Points: FINALLY! Stayed on track. Phew!

9:00 p.m.: No food after 9:00 p.m. again.

Breakfast: Eh. Nothing exciting. English muffin, jelly, ICBINB, and a banana.

3 Fruits: Got em in. Finally. It's amazing how hard these things are to get in.

2 Vegetables: Had a yummy veggie dinner - spaghetti squash and vegetables. This got all my vegetables in with one meal. It was nice. And it's such a tasty meal. :)

November 16 - Day 16 of Day Camp

Oh, the best laid plans of mice and men. I was doing fabulous all day...then dinner hit. Seriously, I was so on...until dinner. Ugh...

Exercise: Decided I needed to beef up the exercise after the weekend. I did 26 minutes of the Wii Active. Had fun with a good sports routine. There were lots of jumping involved though. I then went and went for a walk up and down the street. Took me 28 minutes, I went up, down, and then back up again. It was a nice walk on a really nice day.

Water: None. It being so cold is just killing my desire to drink cold water.

Sweets: Haha! Did it. No sweets for me. Yea!

Points: I was so fine until dinner. We grabbed a sandwich out and brought it home. Then when we came home, I grabbed the bag of BBQ chips. And I should have known NOT to grab the whole bag. But no. I grabbed the bag and just ate chips. I have no idea how many I ate. I just ate them. They were soooo good! And salty. So, outside the stupid chips, I would have been fine. Stupid chips...

9:00 p.m.: Yup. No food after 9:00 p.m. This seems to be the easiest rule to follow.

Breakfast: Cereal, milk, banana. Nothing exciting. But did go over 5 points. Yea!

3 Fruits: Not all my fruits, but 2. It's on the right track at least.

2 Vegetables: :-( I had one in my sandwhich. Other than that, veggies didn't happen yesterday. Ugh.

November 15 - Day 15 of Day Camp

Ugh. Sunday did not turn around like I thought it would. Here are the dirty details.

Exercise: Nothing. Ugh.

Water: None. Double ugh.

Sweets: Lalala...the stupid coconut chocolate chip cookies called my name.

Points: I was good until the cookies...

9:00 p.m.: Amazingly enough, I felt the need to follow THIS boot camp rule...

Breakfast: I thought I was going ok. I had a nice egg white omlet with cheese and broccoli, 1/4 of the potatoes they gave me, a corn muffin with butter and coffee. I knew it wasn't the best, but I tried.

3 Fruits: Hangs head in shame.

2 Vegetables: All I really had was the broccoli in my eggs.

Really, this just was a horrible day. What the heck happened???

November 14 - Day 14 of Boot Camp

Well, it was the beginning of the end for two days of boot camp. It was a rough weekend, as I went away overnight with a friend to Atlantic City, NJ. I had a really good time, but boot camp was not on my mind during my time away.

Exercise: I was going to run before leaving, but I was too tired to get up. I accidentally then overslept completely and didn't get ANY exercise in before I left. :-(

Water: None. I drove 2 hours to my friend's house, then another 1.5 hours to Atlantic City and I didn't want to have to go to the bathroom. I had lots of things to drink, but no water.

Sweets: Lalala...yes, I had sweets. I had a yummy lemon meringue pie slice and a raspberry/mousse shooter. Delish! So worth cheating at the buffet!

Points: I have no idea how many points I had. We had dinner at a buffet. That should be enough right there for ya. I did have a very large plate of salad though. Then it went all down hill. I also had three alcoholic drinks, though the third one was a lite beer. LOL!

9:00 p.m.: I actually followed a boot camp rule! We didn't have any snacks after dinner. So, I was able to follow this one.

Breakfast: English muffine with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray and jelly. I also had a banana. Yum!

3 Fruits: Had a banana. That's it. I meant to grab some dried cherries before heading out, but forgot. Darn it!

2 Vegetables: I got my veggies in with a HUGE plate of salad. Seriously. I took a dinner plate and filled it with salad and started off my dinner at the buffet with that. Yum! It actually was really good. And I was proud I got it in.

So, that was my bad Sat. We had a really good time and walked everywhere once we got there. I'm not counting it as exercise, but at least I didn't sit my butt on a sofa/chair the whole time and do nothing.

November 13 - Day 13 of Boot Camp

Well, again, here's how the rest of Friday went...after weigh-in.

Exercise: 30 minutes on my little bike. Did that before dinner. I ran a bunch of errands and ended up just doing the bike. It was fine as I pushed it hard to go faster than usual for longer than usual.

Water: Got it all in.

Sweets: Nothing.

Points: Did fine, even with pizza. I may have gone over by 2, but not sure. Some items I'm not sure exactly how many points are for items. It's ok. It was a good Friday. One of the best Friday's in a long time.

9:00 p.m.: Nothing.

Breakfast: No breakfast. I never have breakfast on weigh-in day since I don't want to eat before going to WW and I always have errands after wards.

3 Fruits: Managed to get fruit in.

2 Vegetables: Got veggies in.

Boot Camp Weigh In 2 - Day 12 of Boot Camp

Hi All! Weigh in this morning. I know I slipped a little from week one, got a little sloppy this week, so I was hoping for a loss of some kind. Initially, like last week, I was hoping for 2.5 pounds. Thought that would be a really nice number. But then, I decided 2 would be ok too. In reality, loosing two weeks in a row for me is an accomplishment, so I was hoping for anything. LOL! So, got up and headed to the center. Drum roll please...1.4 pounds. So, not as much as I wished, but I did loose. That's HUGE for me. Two weeks in a row. Wow. And it got me over the 30 pounds lost mark (31.4 thank you very much) and it got me into the next 10 pound range. Which, let me tell you, has been a LONG time coming! I have been trying to get past the last 10 pounds for a good 5 months. Ugh. So, I am finally in the next 10 pound range and have not weighed this since spring 2004. Yup. It's been that long. Wow. I need 1 pound to be back at my lowest weight that I can remember and that also was spring 2004. Maybe next week.

Alright, now that today's weigh-in has been covered, time to go over how yesterday went (obviously not too badly since I lost this week). :-)

Exercise: Used the treadmill to run. I should have gone somewhere, but I was feeling lazy. Ran 20 minutes, but my stomach was killing me. Apparently, I ran too quickly after eating lunch. So, I then walked for 5 minutes, then finished off with 5 more minutes running. I have to remember that I need lots of time between eating and running.

Water: Got it all in. Some of it was hot tea, but I still got it in.

Sweets: Nothing.

Points: Ugh. I was under today. I guess that makes up a little for all the days I was over this week. LOL! We went out to eat last night to help support the SPCA here and I thought my dinner was more points than it actually was. Guess that's a problem I should have more often. Ah well. One day won't kill me.

9:00 p.m.: No snacks for me. Had my last serving of fruit just in time.

Breakfast: Boring cereal. Going to try eggs next time I have breakfast at home. I think that will help shake things up a bit.

3 Fruits: Got the fruit in...barely. I remembered while we were out that I needed one more fruit for the day. We rushed through Borders and got home in time for me to have grapes to get all three fruits in. Phew!

2 Vegetables: Had a delicious salad, which covered both my vegetables for the day. It's so freaking good! It's probably my favorite out to eat salad ever. Three types of lettuce, carrots, onions, dried cheeries, walnuts and a raspberry vinegriatte dressing. Yum!

Total Boot Camp Weight Loss: 5.4 pounds
Total Pounds to go to end of year goal: 9.6

November 11 - Day 11 of Boot Camp

The day turned out ok. I was a little surprised. Hoping this means things are getting back to normal.

Exercise: Well, skipping exercise lasted one day. Today, I was able to get in about 40 minutes on my little bike. It was good. Very happy I got it in. And I got to read some of my book. :-) I like reading books that have nothing to do with my thesis.

Water: Yea water! Back on track here too. Phew!

Sweets: Nada. Though I was tempted by the chocolate chip cookies in the cabinet in the kitchen.

Points: Yea! Exactly how many points I was supposed to have. Did not use flex points for the first day this week. So glad it's possible.

9:00 p.m.: I worried I would have an issue as hubby was due to get home at 11:00 p.m. from his business trip with dinner. Turned out he ate before he left NC and didn't bring any food with him, so I was good.

Breakfast: English muffin, ICBINB spray, and jelly. A banana too.

3 Fruits: Got my fruit in. I was glad to get it all in for the first time in awhile. This and vegetables have been a little harder than I thought.

2 Vegetables: Had chili for dinner, which I had added lots of veggies to. Got one serving in, not two. Man, who would think getting 2 vegetables a day in would be so hard?

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

November 10 - Day 10 of Boot Camp

Apparently the newness of boot camp has worn off. And, I hate to admit it, but my hubby was right yesterday. Darn it!

Exercise: Nothing. I meant to. I spent literally the whole day working on writing Chapter 2 of my thesis. I started before noon, which is very rare for me. I like to start stuff after lunch and worked until about 10:00 p.m. in the evening. Spoke to hubby around 11:00 p.m. and hadn't done anything. I said I had plenty of time. Well, guess I just bailed. Didn't do anything. First time since I started boot camp that I didn't do something. :-( Sad.

Water: Missed it by 2 cups. Didn't feel like getting up and getting one last glass last night.

Sweets: Nothing. But I will say, I am so noticing all the cookie/brownie/cake commercials on television. And I sooo want something! And the other thing is I get these great Christmas emails with all sorts of Christmas cookie/bar recipes lately. Ummm...now I want to BAKE! LOL! It's getting pretty funny.

Points: I did not do well. I went over by 3 again. Is till have the flex points to do it, but it's frustrating to rely on these flex points during the week. The true test will be Friday morning, but still. It's very strange to use them during the week. Hoping the rest of the week keeps me on a straight 22 a day.

9:00 p.m.: Worked out ok. This isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Breakfast: Boring ole cereal again. I really need to spruce up breakfast some how.

3 Fruits: 2 fruits today. Not three. Oops. The fruit is getting harder and harder to get in. Partly because I can't find my dried cherries and now I'm out of bananas. Not many fruit left right now. Makes it hard to get it all in. Need to get to the store to get more.

2 Vegetables: None. :-( This was not a good day. No exercise and no vegetables. Ugh.

The newness has definitely worn off. Hopefully I can get some of the initial momentum back.

November 9 - Day 9 of Boot Camp

I am realizing that having flex points available through the week may not be a good idea. In my previous boot-campless life, I did not have any flex points past Sat. night. I never counted them, I just didn't use them. I assumed I ate them all between Friday and Saturday, and ignored the whole concept of flex points. But, after this weekend of counting them and realizing I had an extra 15 flex points come Sunday, it's been easy to justify eating a little more than usual...because I have flex points available. This may be a problem...

Exercise: The weather was really nice today. Amazingly so for Nov. and just so out of the blue. I wanted to do something outside, but not run. I reserve running for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. So, I determined I would walk my street. I know that sounds silly, but my street is one big hill. So, I walked to the top of the street, down to the bottom, and back to my house. It took my 23 minutes. Now I wasn't booking it, but it wasn't a stroll either. And the uphill was fine (until I woke up this morning and my butt HURT!). But 23 minutes is not 30, so I jumped on the Wii Fit and did 10 minutes of step and 10 minutes of balance exercises for a total of 43 minutes of exercise. It was a nice day.

Water: Got it all in.

Sweets: Nothing. This is easier than I thought, surprisingly enough.

Points: This is where my intro comes into play. We headed out to dinner last night to celebrate my MIL's birthday. I had dinner picked out (Cedar-Seared Salmon Pasta - 10 points for the whole dish) and a salad with light dressing. Well, I was fine until the salad came...with a breadstick. I adore bread and breadsticks. There is nothing I like better than sitting down to a meal and being handed a bread basket. And I caved. I ate the breadstick. And it took me over in points. And yes, while I have the flex points available to me, I feel like I am cheating. I am usually so good at being at my points for the day during the week that this being over thing is worrying me. I know it's the first week I tracked the flex points, so I need to give myself time to work out the kinks, but it still feels like cheating. I used 3 flex points yesteday.

9:00 p.m.: We were out until after 9:00 p.m., so this was easy to do. No food.

Breakfast: Toasted me an English muffin and topped it with peanut butter and jelly. It was yummy! That alone was 5 points! I also had coffee with a tad bit of light soy milk.

3 Fruits: Only one serving of fruit yesteday. The whole going out to dinner thing really threw me. I wanted to make sure I had enough points for that, but in doing so, I ran out of points for fruit. :-(

2 Vegetables: This was no problem. I had tomato soup for lunch and a salad for dinner. The salad was big enough that I'm sure that would have been my 2 vegetables by itself. That's the good thing about eating out, I can get a salad to help with my vegetables. Can't generally say the same for fruit.

November 8 - Day 8 of Boot Camp

Alrighty, officially one week in. Wow. It's been a little crazy so far, but not too bad. Happy that this is going better than expected. Especially the sweets. I expected that to be really hard. It's not easy watching other people have cookies or ice cream, but it's doable.

Exercise: Used the bike. I was working on my thesis all afternoon and didn't get anything in. At about 9:00 p.m., I realized I hadn't done anything. Grabbed the little bike and away I went and did 30 minutes. Not bad. I could have done something a little more challenging, but I kinda blew off the exercise until the last minute.

Water: After yesterday's water debacle I was determined to get all the water in. And I did! It took until midnight, but I got in 64 oz. of water. Phew!

Sweets: Nothing. And with being tempted with chocolate chip cookies. Not too bad. I will admit, at breakfast, I looked over the cookbook to see what dessert I can make come the 15th. I have decided on a chocolate layer cake. Oh yes, chocolate layer cake...for 2 points a serving! Go WW! Next Sunday (which is the 15th), I will photograph making the cake and post it, along with a review. It says it makes 12 servings, so it'll be nice to have cake for dessert each night and be on track.

Points: Well, again, idiot that I am, forgot to write something down and went over. I had tortilla chips with chili for dinner and forgot about them. And I do mean forgot because as I was writing down the chili and cheese I put on top of it, I knew there was something else, but couldn't think of it. So, I went blithfully along and had 3 more points than I should have. Guess that's the good thing about not eating all my flex points over the weekend. I have 15 left and easily afforded those extra 3 tortilla chip points. Phew!

9:00 p.m.: Ate right up to the 9:00 p.m. hour again. Ah well. At least I am stopping at 9:00 p.m.

Breakfast: Simple left over pancakes with light syrup = 5 points. It was quick and tasty. And kinda like splurging on breakfast since I usually only have cereal.

3 Fruits: Wow. I'm just realizing that I didn't get all my fruits in yesterday. I thought I had. :-( That's sad. I had grapes at lunch and a banana after dinner. Crap! I was doing so well too...

2 Vegetables: Well, I know I got this in. I had a cup of carrots at lunch and the chili for dinner, which had a serving of vegetables in. Man, sometimes it's hard to get in all the required boot camp rules.

Here's hoping to a better tomorrow. Though I will say, this is probably the best weekend I've had in a very long time when it comes to diet and exercise. So, while not perfect, it definitately put me on the right track.

Sunday, November 8, 2009

November 7 - Day 7 of Boot Camp

Saturday. The hardest day of the week for me to stay on track. We're always running around doing stuff, going out to eat, and what not. Trying to stick to such a regimented structure like boot camp on a very flexible day is tough. But, I tried. And really, the point of boot camp is to get me to THINK about what I'm doing more. I'm not going to be perfect, but I can be more conscious of my decisions.

Exercise: Saturday mornings mean long runs. I get up, head to the park, and usually run a fair distance, then go to DD for donuts. Well, with boot camp, the donuts were out, but I still went running. It was only my second run this week and only third one since vacation in Oct., so I didn't have high hopes. I got in 2.25 miles in about 30 minutes. I would normally be able to tell you my exact time, but the stop watch stopped working and I have NO idea. :-( Very mad at that. So, I ran 2.25 miles, but not sure how long.

Water: There was no water today. I had four drinks all day: 1 cup of coffee, 1 Miller Lite, 1 Sam Adams Winter Ale, and 1 Diet Coke. No water. Saturdays suck for water consumption.

Sweets: I rocked at this one today. We went to dinner with a friend and after wards went to Bruesters for ice cream. I was the only one who resisted, which was tough since they had my favorite, pumpkin. I had a Diet Coke instead and kept the no sweets streak alive. Go me!

Points: This went much better than I expected it to. I had a nice breakfast of cereal, milk, coffee and a banana, which was sorta brunch. Then a serving of Goldfish Pretzels as a snack in the afternoon. Then off to dinner. Had two beers, a house salad (with lite dressing), a turkey wrap, and fries. The worst thing I had was the fries and I was only into my flex points by 10. It worked out really well. I'm proud of myself. And the funny thing is, I have 15 flex points available for the rest of the week. Wow.

9:00 p.m.: Worked out fine, even with eating out.

Breakfast: Breakfast was more brunch than a real breakfast only because I run on Sat. and I've discovered I can't eat a big meal before running. So, I can home and made my somewhat normal breakfast at about 10:30 a.m. So, it was more of a brunch, but it was more than 5 points total. :-)

3 Fruits: Ugh. 2 of 3 in. It's hard when you're out and about to get in all your fruits. I had a banana at breakfast, then my wrap had apples and cranberries in it. Not enough alone for a fruit, but combined, there was about a full serving of fruit. So, only two today.

2 Vegetables: I ordered a salad at dinner specifically so I would get some vegetables in. Worked out wonderfully as the salad was easily two cups. So, in one meal in one dish, I got my 2 vegetables in. Yea! And all while eating out.

November 6 - Day 6 of Boot Camp

Well, you heard all about weigh-in yesterday, but here's how the rest of the day went down.

Exercise: I was lame. I did Wii Fit for 30 minutes. I did the step routine for 20, which apparently I sucked at. LOL! Then I did 10 minutes of balance exercises. I LOVE the soccer game, so I did that for 6 minutes, then tried two new balance games - tightrope and bubble bounce. Both were fun. Both were aggrevating. But I got 30 minutes in, even if it was kinda lame.

Water: Ugh. Missed it by 2 cups. We went out last night and I just couldn't catch up. Water seems to be an issue. Which I knew it would. Fun.

Sweets: None. Again.

Points: Today was the first day I used Flex Points. Normally, I eat whatever I want Friday night and Saturday, consider that my Flex Points, and go on with my week come Sunday. This time around I have to be accountable for my Flex Points, so...I used 10 of them yesterday. Not too bad. I was pretty happy I was able to splurge a little AND stay on track. I had two Papa John's breadsticks (7 points) and a Gloria Jeans Pumpkin Spice Latte Regular with Skim Milk (5 points).

9:00 p.m.: No problem!

Breakfast: Breakfast, what breakfast? LOL! I never eat before weigh-in, so I left at 9:15 a.m. without eating. Then I stopped at Target and the grocery store and got home around 11:00 a.m. So, I had a serving of dried cherries and called it a morning. So, bad morning for me.

3 Fruits: Managed to squeeze them all in - dried cherries, grapes, and a banana. Going to the grocery store sure helped!

2 Vegetables: Got all my veggies in in one meal. LOL! I made a HUGE veggie wrap with Flat Out bread for lunch knowing pizza was on the agenda for dinner. So, I planned ahead and stayed on track. Not bad. :-)

So, my first Friday of boot camp went well overall. No big problems. Phew!

November 6 - First Boot Camp Weigh-in and Day 5

Well, today is the first test of boot camp. Got up and went to WW to weigh in. Hoping for three pounds this week. I figured I wouldn't loose all that I gained in the month of Oct., but that 3 pounds for a completely revamped eating and exercise regime was doable. Got on the scale and was down 4 pounds! Yes, 4. I was so freaking excited! It worked! All my hard work this week worked! It was such a great feeling!! Now the test is Friday night. I usually let things slid Friday and Saturday nights since I have plenty of time to be on track before the following Friday, but boot camp rules call for a full accounting of flex points. First flex point challenge of Boot Camp.

Alrighty, here's how Day 5 went:

Exercise: Did 30 minutes on the bike. I spent my entire day working on my thesis that I kinda forgot to do something. So, at 9:15 p.m., I grabbed the bike and rode that while watching Legend of the Seeker. Yup, I'm a geek.

Water: Ugh. Missed it by 2 cups. I just couldn't do another glass of cold water and I didn't make a cup of decaf tea last night, so I was deficient in water.

Sweets: None (I like how I don't have to change this each week.)

Points: Got all my points in today. There was some adventure in it though. I had planned on mac 'n cheese with veggies or spaghetti squash with veggies, but hubby wasn't feeling well so we made light pancakes. They were yummy! But, I ran into veggie issues. You'll see what happened under veggies and fruits. :-)

9:00 p.m.: This one was funny. See fruits and veggies.

Breakfast: Breakfast was fine. Nothing exciting. I really want to make a good breakfast different than cereal one day. Maybe the weekend. Some form of egg something or other.

3 Fruits/2 Vegetables:: First, I will say, I got all my fruits in. Second I will say it took forever to get the last one in. LOL! I am going to combine fruits and veggies today because really, they were one in the same. I realized we were low on fruits today and would need some thoughtful thinking to figure out how to get them in with a limited selection/amount. I had dried fruit at lunch and realized it would be a banana and an apple later in the day. Dinner was to be either mac and cheese with vegetables or spaghetti squash with vegetables, but we switched to pancakes so I still had a serving of vegetables to get in. After dinner I had my banana, which was yummy. I figured I'd wait a little while, then have some carrots, then at 8:30 p.m. have my apple. Well, 8:25 comes around and I had forgotten my carrots. Oops. So, I grab a serving of carrots, an apple, and a cheese stick (still needed 3 points for the day.). Got back to the living room at 8:36 p.m. and commenced eating. And ate literally until 9:00 p.m. It took me that long to eat a serving of carrots, an apple and a cheese stick. LOL! Who knew? But, I got in my fruits and veggies for the day.

Wish me luck over the weekend. They are always the hardest for me.

November 4 - Day 4 of Boot Camp

Day 4 went well. I may have finally had a day where everything worked out!

Exercise: It has been a long time since I ran. Like three weeks. I ran the Tuesday after coming home from vacation, then slacked. Ugh. So, I decided to jump back on the bike and run. I used the treadmill with a goal of 30 minutes. I was so close. I ran the first 25 minutes, then realized I was spent. Walked for three minutes, then decided I could run the last two. So, I did get in 27 minutes of running. Not great, but not the worst it could be. Afterwards, I used my Wii Active Upper Body (Easy) routine for some added exercise. The routine lasted 18 minutes. Yea! So, the best day of exercise all week.

Water: Got it all in...finally!

Sweets: None

Points: Today, I stayed on track. Shocked, but did it. I had too many points at the end of the day though. Somehow I have to figure out how to leave myself enough points at the end of the day for a snack, but not so many that I'm scrambling to figure out how to spend them. It's a learning process. And it's only day 4.

9:00 p.m.: Nailed this. No problems whatsoever. This one seems to be getting easier.

Breakfast: Went back to the boring breakfast of Special K Blueberry cereal, soy milk, dried blueberries, and coffee. I'm starting to run low on the Special K cereal, but I have some Kashi Blueberry (which I think is better than the Special K, but more expensive. I only have Kashi due to a sale at the grocery store AND a coupon) which I will be starting shortly. I like having a little bit of a bigger breakfast and it's not killing me later in the day as I always thought it would. Maybe I'm learning. Shock!

3 Fruits: Got it! Had the dried blueberries at breakfast, grapes at lunch, and a banana after dinner. Not bad. It's not as hard as I thought to get them in. Though I am running into a problem today. I finished the blueberries yesterday and can't find my dried cherries and the grapes are basically done. Lovely. I have a banana left and there's apples and pears in the fridge. Enough for today, but will need to hit the grocery store for tomorrow!

2 Vegetables: Had a great veggie day! Made a large salad for lunch with tuna. It turned out awesome! Even hubby liked it. :-) Then we had the chili with all the extra veggies in it for dinner over a baked potato. Yummy! So, veggies we're too hard to get in.

Hoping for a good weigh-in day tomorrow. Would love to see the 4.2 pounds I gained in Oct. vanish, but I'll be happy with any loss. It's a start and that's all I'm really asking for.

November 3 - 3rd Day of Boot Camp

Maybe I should get more creative with blog entry titles. I've noticed they've been somewhat the same lately. Maybe at the end of Boot Camp Week 1 I'll get more creative...maybe.

Day three went well. I had a slight forgetful situation happen at about 11:00 p.m. last night, but I'll get into that in just a minute. I did notice I was hungry when I went to bed. I wasn't last night. Hmmm....maybe my snacks weren't as filling as the night before? Who knows? It's hard to tell what the body needs all the time. If I did, then I wouldn't need boot camp, would I? LOL! Alright, onto the deets:

Exercise: Well, here's where I almost forgot. I had planned on running, but I had a rough afternoon at school. I thought I'd be there for about an hour, ended up being there for almost 3 and by the time I got home, I didn't feel like running. So, I said I'll use the bike again, no big deal. Well, we had dinner, and watched some tv, and I kinda did some research for my thesis and before you know it, it's 11:00 p.m. and no exercise. Shoot! Now, I could have bagged it and said I can't be perfect every day, but I decided week 1 was not the time to slack. So, I grabbed the bike and used that for 30 minutes, finishing up at 11:30 p.m. That is WAY later than I would ever normally exercise, but I am on day 3 of boot camp and I needed to follow through.

Water: Missed it by 1/4 of a cup. I had my water next to me and forgot to take the last swig before going to bed. Grrr...

Sweets: None

Points: Ugh. I did it again. Over. By 2 points. This is why you must right things down. I forgot to write down my grapes after lunch and then ended up thinking I needed two more points at the end of the day. Ugh. WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN WHEN YOU EAT IT. How hard is that to do? Really.

9:00 p.m.: Nailed this. No problems whatsoever. This one seems to be getting easier.

Breakfast: Varied breakfast up a bit today. Had an English muffin with ICBINB spray and jelly, as well as a toasted apple with reduced-fat Cheddar cheese melted on top. I also had soy milk in my coffee, so breakfast ended up being 7 points rather than 5, but that's ok. Other than the grape debacle, I would have been fine.

3 Fruits: Managed all three fruits today - apple at breakfast, grapes at lunch, and a banana for dessert after dinner. Yup. That wasn't hard at all.

2 Vegetables: Had a slight hiccup in the veggies today. Dinner was to be spaghetti squash with veggies, but we decided to go Ellio's pizza instead. Well, that threw off my having veggies for dinner and had to eat a serving of carrots just to make sure I got my two servings in today. I had a serving of veggies in the soup at lunch, so I did get them in. Just need to be careful when we change dinner plans at the last minute that it includes vegetables.

So, other than the slight water misshap and not writing down my points and over eating by 2, I did well for Tuesday. So, what that teaches me is I have to be more conscious of writing down what I eat (as Monday my downfall was the cheese stick and yesterday was the grapes) and I have to drink my water earlier in the day so I am getting it in without drinking a huge glass right before bed.

While I have yet to be perfect, this accountablity is helping me see where I am slipping up. Hoping that by concentrating on the basics, I can get a solid foundation that will carry me through to my goal weight. Hoping Friday's weigh-in shows a loss!

November 2 - 2nd Day of Boot Camp

So, as I typed out today's ingeniously clever headline, I felt like I it should read, "the second day of deer camp" after the song. LOL! I don't know why, but it kinda made me laugh.

Alrighty, yesterday went really well. I am pretty proud of my Monday, as it went much better than my Sunday. I had a slightly weak moment as I was making dinner, but I made it through. So, here's Monday's stats:

Exercise: Got in 30 minutes. I used the bike again, as my legs were a tad sore still from Sat.'s Wii Active workout. I also did 7 minutes of arm weights with my dumb bells. I don't have a set routine, so I just do some stuff until they hurt. I ran once in the house for my water cup and realized it was a smart idea not to go for a run, since the back of my right thigh was in pain.

Water: Got my water in. Had 48 oz of straight water, then a big cup of decaf tea last night. It was a good day for water.

Sweets: None

Points: Well, Sunday I was under by one point, today I was over by one point. Ugh. I was really needing something as I was making dinner last night, but I didn't want veggies (which are 0 points), so I grabbed a WW cheese stick. I was proud of myself for remembering we had those. What I'm not proud of was I didn't write it down. So, after dinner I thought I had 3 points left and had a banana with 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter totally forgetting the cheese stick before dinner. Lovely. So, between the two days it evened out, but neither day has been perfect yet.

9:00 p.m.: Did much better. Had my last snack of the night at 8:30 p.m. - banana and 1/2 tablespoon of reduced-fat peanut butter. It was good! And I finished WAY before the 9:00 p.m. deadline. I was very conscious last night to watch the clock and not be caught rushing before 9:00 p.m. to finish off the last of my points.

Breakfast: Had a good breakfast, basically the same as Sunday - Special K cereal with soy milk, dried blueberries, and coffee with soy milk. Got in my dairy AND kept the 5 points at lunch going. Woohoo!

3 Fruits: Got in all three fruits! I had dried blueberries at breakfast, a serving of grapes at lunch, and a banana as my dessert. I got them all in and enjoyed them. Phew! Glad to see it's possible.

2 Vegetables: Vegetables were easy today. Had a HUGE burrito-style lunch with shredded turkey and vegetables that was very good. I heat the veggies and turkey in the skillet, added light peppercorn spread cheese to light Italian flat-outs and put the whole thing in the toaster oven. Delicious! For dinner we had a big salad with garlic-butter tilapia (thanks Gordon's!) and a baked potato with salsa. Got all the veggies in today AND had a fabulous dinner.

Day 2 went well. I'm proud of how it went and that other than the slight mishap with the cheese stick, I was pretty much on target. This is working. I am focusing on healthy eating habits and the longer this goes on, the better chance this becomes a habit. It can work.

November 1 - First Day of Boot Camp

The first day is always the hardest. I am gung-ho about this, but that doesn't mean that making myself abide by my self-inflicted rules wouldn't be hard. And I have to follow the rules as closely as I can, since I know people are following along. LOL!

The worst part of the first day was the desire to eat after 9:00 p.m. I really wanted a snack about 11:00 p.m., but I knew I couldn't have it. Sucked. Ah well. As time goes on, I will get used to it and be ok. It's just that first night...

Alright, a round-up of how yesterday went:

Exercise: Got in 30 minutes. I had done a 30 minute Wii Active work out on Sat. that KILLED my legs. They were so sore that getting up and sitting down hurt. So, I used my mini bike while watching tv last night. My legs were sore as I did it, but I vowed to get in 30 minutes and I did.

Water: I got in two full glasses of plain water and two glasses of decaf tea. Debating to call this a success. It used to be that water had to be plain water to count, now WW is saying decaf tea/coffee counts too. For now, I'm counting water a success because I was cold and the tea helped warm me up.

Sweets: None

Points: Missed daily points by 1 point yesterday. I need 22 a day and got only 21. I planned on having a snack about 8:30 p.m. (carrots and humus), but before I knew it, it was 8:55 p.m. and had to decide between two boot camp rules - get all my points in or no eating after 9:00 p.m. I grabbed the bag of carrots and humus and ate that for 4 minutes. I didn't quite get in all my points, but I got close and didn't eat after 9:00 p.m. This is a valuable lesson. Watch the clock!

9:00 p.m.: Well...see above. LOL! I didn't eat after 9:00 p.m. and that really was hard. I wanted a snack later on and technically I had the points for it, but I chose to stick to the plan and didn't eat anything. It was tough. Hopefully this gets easier as the weeks go by.

Breakfast: I did well at eating 5 points for breakfast actually. I had a bowl of Special K Blueberry cereal with soy milk, a serving of dried blueberries and a cup of tea. It wasn't much more than I normally eat, but it did boost my points value from my normal 2 points to 5 points. I need to get a little creative with breakfast though, so that's something to think about as the weeks go by.

3 Fruits: Sadly, I was one fruit shy of the goal today. I was going to have a banana for dessert after dinner as I found a great recipe for a baked banana but our bananas aren't ripe enough for that. I did have the dried blueberries (as mentioned above) and a serving of grapes. That's a good start and I know to focus on the fruits more.

2 Vegetables: I barely made this one! I made a yummy English muffin sandwhich with reduced-fat Cheddar cheese and veggies for lunch, though not a full serving of vegetables were on the sandwhich. Dinner was chili from a pouch that I added a can of diced tomatoes, and a cup each of onions, carrots, red peppers, and green peppers. That was yummy! Then I had the carrots and humus for my snack at 8:55 p.m. So, I got in my vegetables...barely!

So, not a bad day one. Got in just about everything. Need to work on eating earlier in the day and getting in the water. The water will be a challenge as I only like it ice cold and with the weather turning cold, I don't like drinking ice cold beverages as it makes me cold. LOL! But, this is boot camp and it's not supposed to be easy, right?

Chris's November Boot Camp

Well, here it is. The highly anticipated Chris's November Boot Camp. I worked out outlining it for myself over the last couple of days and it's highly personal. But, with that being said, if you want to follow along, play with it. I focused on things that have been tripping me up for the last couple of months. So, without further ado, Chris's November Boot Camp!

* I will exercise 30-60 minutes every day in the month of November (including Thanksgiving!).

* I will drink 64 oz. of water every day.

* For the first two weeks there will be no more candy or processed sweets. Starting in week three, no candy, but if it is home made, I may have sweets. This is to get me thinking more of making my own home made desserts rather than relaying on pre-packaged stuff.

* I will eat my daily points and track my flex points.

* I will not eat after 9:00 p.m.

* I will eat a minimum of 5 points at breakfast every day.

* I will eat 3 fruits each day.

* I will eat 2 vegetables each day.

Each day I will come on and share how I'm doing. It's a lot and to me, it's pretty hard core, but I am going to do my best to follow through on ALL the above EACH day. I may slip from time to time, but I hope the end result is A. a kick to my weight loss effort and B. start me back on eating healthy because even when I finish loosing the weight, I need to have the habits to sustain it. This boot camp should help.

So, follow along and share with me what YOU'RE doing to be healthy. I sure could use what's working for you!
